GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Lisbon is Portugal’s hilly, coastal capital city. From imposing São Jorge Castle, the view encompasses the old city’s pastel-colored buildings, the Tagus Estuary and the Ponte 25 de Abril suspension bridge. Nearby, the National Azulejo Museum displays five centuries of decorative ceramic tiles. Just outside Lisbon is a string of Atlantic beaches, from Cascais to Estoril.

FADO MUSIC CONCERT

Fado is traditional folk music, popular in Portugal. Melancholic by nature, the music utilizes guitars and mandolins with one Fadista singing poetic lyrics related to darker elements of love, death and sadness.

MIRADOURO DO CASTELO DE SAO JORGE

The Miradouro do Castelo de São Jorge has a monumental panoramic view of the city and river, dominating the whole surrounding landscape. It was built at the end of the 18th century, but its supporting walls date from the 14th century.

HISTORICAL CENTER

Alfama is one of the oldest and most typical quarters of Lisbon, blending Roman and Moorish architecture. This medieval quarter is the only neighborhood that survived the Great Earthquake of 1755.
