Be careful when swimming in the Amazon river or its affluents! Do not swim at night because of alligators, do not swim at sunset or sunrise because of piranhas (it is meal time for them). Swimming during the day is relatively safe (snakes usually don’t attack people) but the currents can be VERY strong, I needed to swim just to stay in the same spot.
